Insomnis veritas

A musical project

This song serves as a reminder that our choices are our own. Despite the dishonesties of others or the circumstances of life, we are responsible and free to cultivate a life which feels safe and free.

Though I wrote this song over 5 years ago, the lilting rhythms linger in my mind. Falling’s melodies have stuck into a deep part of my soul and remind me of the freedom that comes through letting go.

LAtest Single:

Falling

  • Verse 1:

Falling in love with the thought of you.

That’s all I ever knew how to do.

Paint a picture of your soul, in my brain.

All that’s left in the world I could do was pray.

    Pre-Chorus:

    You messed with my brain,

but your lies made me stay.

    I clung to my smile,

    As I died everyday.

    Chorus:

    Falling in love is easy,

it’s the getting out that’s hard.

    Falling in love is easy,

it’s the getting out that’s hard.

    Verse 2:

Falling in love with the future me.

Now that’s my kind of manifest destiny.

    Eyes wide open, soul strong,

    I am finally free.

There is no one and nothing,

    that I’m supposed to be.

    Pre-Chorus:

    You messed with my brain,

but your lies made me stay.

    I clung to my smile,

    As I died everyday.

    Chorus:

    Falling in love is easy,

It’s the getting out that’s hard.

    Falling in love is easy,

It’s the getting out that’s hard.

Fabricated Reality

Written for a young Christian woman who was stuck in an abusive marriage to a pastor. The lyrics describe both stuckness and freedom, a reclamation of self despite the isolation and struggle that come from covert abuse.

  • Verse 1:
    Fabricated reality,
Brick by brick built around me.
    Isolation in word and deed.
Your lies were laced with true beauty

    And I'm scared,
Of all the things you put me through.
    Too aware,
Of all the things you made me do.

    Verse 2:
There are patches on my heart,
Scraps of cloth covering all my scars.
There are whispers in the dark,
About the truth of who you are.

    And I'm scared,
Of all the things you put me through.
    Too aware,
Of all the things you made me do.

    Chorus:
    Cause there's power in the pain;
Power in the name that I have gained,
From the game you have played.

Cause there's power in the blood,
    I have lost for the sake of love;
Didn't know he liked it rough.

    Cause there's power in the pain;
Power in the name that I have gained,
From the game you have played.

Cause there's power in the blood,
    I have lost for the sake of love;
Didn't know he liked it rough.

    Bridge:
Do not think for a moment that I envy
Those who've lived different lives from me.
For my strength begins in my story,
And there's life that I've gained from my injuries.

Do not think for a moment that I envy
Those who've lived different lives from me.
For my strength begins in my story,
And there's life that I've gained from my injuries.

INVICTUS

Inspired by the William Ernest Henley poem of the same name, Invictus is the Latin word for “unconquerable.”

An anthem of survival while traversing an unsafe life, this piece is the declaration of an indomitable spirit despite a future that is murky and unknown.

Regardless of circumstance or potential hardships, we can surmount them with resilience and a pursuit of truth that exists beyond external and internal barriers.

  • I stopped up my ears

to not hear the siren call

    But temptation it cleared

    now I hear them all.

    Tied to the mast

    My telos at last

    I long for them

I am fighting for my end

    Two roads diverged

In a dark and moody wood

    Which path I should take

    Knowing does no good.

Feel this call of your heart

    It will tear you apart

    The trick of fate

In this Shelob’s web called Faith

    Invictus

    I chase truth

I’m a sailor on stormy siren seas

    Invictus

    I break through

    And nothing can stop me

    Invictus

    I break through

    And nothing

    can stop me

    Bloody but unbowed

    Though futures but a shroud

    A specter mist horizon

    Tugged on by the wind

    Sails taut our quest begins

Despite the fear that fills the silence….

    Invictus

    I break through

I’m a sailor on stormy siren seas

    Invictus

    I break through

    And nothing can stop me

  • Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

    Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.
